2019 Summer Adventure Post 1

2019 Summer Adventure

Well I guess you can say we are Movin' Right Along.  I finished up my last year at the dance studio-29 years hard to believe.  Now onto a new chapter.  We are starting with a new "2019 Summer Adventure" as we call it.  Goal 1 is to begin to be acclimated to the camping life as a lifestyle not a vacation.  Don't get me wrong there will be "vacations" along the way but we don't want to be in vacation mode every day of the adventure.  Many of the bloggers we follow said the biggest mistake they made when they started traveling more was to be in VACATION MODE.  Two things happen with that...you burn out quickly and you spend a LOT of money.  So we are trying to make this a lifestyle.  Doing the normal everyday things.  Cooking meals(well maybe that was not the normal everyday things for me lol).  Being on the road actually allows me more time to prepare and cook meals.  We are trying to do that since eating out less is healthier and less expensive.  So that brings us to what do we do with out time?????  Well we arrived in Campbell NY on Tuesday 5/28.  Traveling took up most of our day so once we arrived at the campsite(about 4:00p.m.)we spent time setting things up.  Steven mostly sets up the outside stuff(electricity, water, cable-if available, etc.  I on the other hand set up the inside, unstrap all the chairs and things that were strapped for travel, set up the little things, towel racks, kitchen appliances(instant pot, air fryer and vitamix), trash can etc.  Setting up usually takes about 30-45 minutes.  I usually do a quick clean as travel definitely gets things a bit dusty.  Then we were starving(we only made one quick stop on our travels and had a small snack to hold us over).  So supper was made. Then we took a walk around the campground.  After driving all day that is something we try to do.  Then we put the TV on and relaxed the rest of the night.

Campbell NY Stay!

The main thing we did during this stay was to hike the Gorge at Watkins Glen!  AMAZING doesn't even cut it.  I will(or shall I say my assistant Steven will)try to put up a few pictures here of our hike.  Even though there is approximately 800 steps up the gorge it was well worth it.  Many beautiful stops to rest along the way.  The one things is I am glad I purchased some waterproof hiking shoes.  The path up was wet and many times you were actually under the falls.  There were little paths built into the area where you could walk under the falls and some areas just the water was dripping down the side of the gorge so you would get quite the shower. Steven was happy to have worn his hat-that was supposedly waterproof, well this was a good test and he was very happy it was.  Once you get to the top there is a snack bar and they have a shuttle to bring you back down if you don't want to go back down the 800 steps.  That particular day there was no shuttle so back down the path we headed.

We stopped in the visitor center down at the bottom of the gorge and glad we did.  The lady there was very helpful and suggested we take a walk down the main street in town and see the beautiful views of Seneca Lake.  We actually got our first geocache on the trip.  We wanted to make Katelyn proud.  She loves geocaching and keeps telling us that we should do more along the way of our travels.  We will be working on that goal. We then ate a nice little restaurant on the Lake.

The one other main thing I did on this trip was to visit the Mount Savior Monastery.  It was a very peaceful and beautiful place to visit.  The Monastery is a community of monks striving to live a simple, genuine and full monastic life according to the Scripture of and the Rule of St. Benedict. I had checked in with Nathan and he said they had visited the Monastery on one of their trips.  They had a beautiful crypt and statue of Mary.  It was very peaceful and the monks spend a lot of time in prayer there.  Enjoyed some quiet time in prayer here.
