Munising MI 6/22-6/25
This travel day was fairly short. We decided to travel fairly close to Judy and John just to be sure that all went well and it did. We got to the campground and suddenly something someone told us at our Heartland Rally this year quickly came to my mind. BIG MOSQUITOS!!!! up there! Yes they told me they were plentiful and be sure to have bug stuff. Luckily our site was out in the open and there were a few but Judy said when they were setting up it was worse than a Horror Mosquito Movie, there were swarms of them. Their site was more wooded than ours. They tried to change but the campground was pretty booked so they put up their screen room just to have somewhere to go without getting attacked.
Soon after we got there David(Elizabeth's brother)arrived. He had driven up from Minnesota for a couple of days. Nathan and Elizabeth got in later afternoon. They had gone on a hike and Nathan was not so thrilled about it. He discovered the hidden treasures of the area along that walk-MOSQUITOS. They did go to a Oswald Bear Ranch. They said it was fun but was surprised that they charged you $10 to pet a bear. In my opinion you would have to pay me more than that to pet the bear. They had a fun day. When they got back they went out with David for some ice cream. We then decided to have a campfire in the evening. We decided to have it at our site hopefully few less bugs. Steven did spray the area and we got some type of contraption from Walmart that supposedly keeps bugs away. We felt it was worth a try. All our efforts paid off at least for a while. Later in the evening there was no keeping them away so we called it a night. David did really enjoy the new Marshmallow making fishing pole. Before finishing up the fire we made plans to go to Mass in the morning and go on a really cool boat ride tomorrow.

We decided to actually take a boat tour to see what is called Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It is a must see if you are in this area. The tour guide on the boat shared so much information and fun facts. Way too many to share here. He did tell us the name "Pictured Rocks" comes from the streaks of mineral stain that decorate the cliffs. Stunning colors occur when groundwater oozes out of the cracks and trickles down the rock face. Green and blue colors come from the copper; black from the manganese, or tannins originating in the streams; orange and red come from iron: and white from limonite. Many of the rocks do look like they are sculpted. There is one called the broken vase and it looks exactly like that. Many are faces of Indians and ships. Also in some of the pictures you will see the beautiful color of the water. There is an area of water that is almost a teal color and then turns blue. This is because there is a large sandbar that goes out I believe a couple hundred feet from shore and right at the end of it it goes from 2 feet of water changes to a more blue color and also the depth goes to a 60 foot drop immediately. I will put a few of the pictures below as it is really hard to explain the beauty of them. I will try to put an explanation of each if I can.

| This had a beautiful waterfall going down the rocks! It was fun for kayakers, they could go in and out of the caves. |
 |
| This one and the next show the beautiful colors in the rocks! |
 |
| This is the one with the sandbar you can see the different color of the water as compared to picture below. |
 |
| This one is the one that legend has it that it is an Indian head. You can see it a little way down on the part of rock that is sticking out. It was sort of like making out that object in the clouds lol. |
 |
| This one maybe you can see in the far rocks but in person it looks like you can see all the fronts of ships lined up. |
 |
| There were little caves everywhere. |
 |
| This little cave still had snow and ice in it and he said it last most of the summer. |
 |
| This was amazing. At one point in time the rocks caved in but the roots to this tree spread to the land to stay alive. And it is still growing. Close up picture below. |
We again had the most beautiful weather for the boat ride. I will put a picture below showing off the great T-Shirts Elizabeth designed and had made for our trip. She was creative with the lettering, she used JTOM Rendezvous to make the shape of Michigan out of them. She even squeezed in the 2019 as well. We all were saying we are excited to see what she comes up with for next years trip.
That night we had a nice dinner outside. Food in general always taste better camping.

| Good job Nathan getting us all in the picture! Think you learned this skill from your sister. |
We can now say(since it is the end of the trip)that what originally looked like a week of rain turned out the total opposite. We had a brief shower I think one day other than that it was sunny with highs in the upper 60's to low 70's and nights high 40's to 50's. I have to say if we visited again we would definitely come around this time of year.
The next day everyone left very early they had long travel days ahead of them. Judy, John and David were heading home to Minnesota. Nathan and Elizabeth were doing an extra stop in Wisconsin to see a ballgame. They were excited as they had planned to see a game in the new stadium there. But with construction delays and what have you they actually ended up attending the "Grand Opening Game of the park. Then they were heading home the next day.
We are now planning a week long trip and a few stops along the way to make our destination St. Charles MO to visit with the kids and see their new home. So excited!
