2019 Summer Adventure Post 3
Sauder Village in Archbold OH 6/4-6/7
We love this stop. We have been her a couple of times and absolutely love it. They have a historic village(somewhat comparable to our Sturbridge village)and an Inn and amazing bakery and restaurant. As you can see from the pictures the view from our camper was amazing. We were able to take long walks right at the campground. We even walked out to the Barn Restaurant which was a good thing since they have amazing food and I filled up on their famous fried chicken and Steven on their famous roast beef. So after eating dinner, the walk back definitely did us good after that amazing meal. We also enjoyed the waitress she was very interested in our travels as she was looking forward to do the same soon with her husband. It is always great to talk to the locals, as she also gave us some good info on the things to see and do in the area. She suggested a state park close by for a hike.
This was the start of our walking path in the campground and brought us right into town which consisted of a few buildings and not much else.
We had enjoyed walking in the campground but on recommendation of our waitress at the restaurant we headed out to Harrison Lake State Park. It was a cloudy and windy day which actually was great for our hike. The wind kept the bugs away! We saw a beautiful blue herring. We have seen these at Steven's sister and brother-in-law's lake house but never this close. He came right in front of us. He is BIG! And beautiful. They had a nice campground at this state park so we are going to put it on the list of a possible stop in the future.
During this stay, sounds kinda crazy, but we had to do housecleaning and upkeep of things. I am happy to say it is definitely easier to keep up the camper than the house. I can go through and do a quick clean up in less than a half an hour. Steven keeps up on the outside maintenance things. But we think as we are on the road more we will keep a maintenance book/log to keep track of things. With more travel comes more maintenance. I am also trying to learn some of the maintenance items as it might take a couple pairs of hands to do them. I am sure we will be learning a lot more about the day to day things that come with extended travel.
We headed out to do the grocery shopping. It wasn't right around the corner like our Big Y at home. It was about a 40 minute drive. So along the way to the store I decided to google what might be in our path. That is the nice thing about not having a schedule you can do random things. So the "Independence Dam State Park" cam up on the radar. So we figured what the heck, let's go check it out. It turned out to be a nice stop. They had a campground, nice picnic spots and of course a dam. With all the rain the waters were very high and water was flowing very quickly. As you can see in the picture below you hardly see the dam. There is just something calming about flowing water. We stayed for a while and relaxed. Saw many trees(not branches)flowing down the water. It was crazy.
We left there and headed to the grocery store and I had to get a picture of this crazy thing(not sure what to call it)They were Volkswagon bugs piled one on top of the other. Amazing what people will do for you to notice their business. It was a used car sales place.
Well that was most of the eventful stuff other than the night and morning we left out of nowhere we had a million bugs outside the camper. They were like skinny flies. The one joy of camping that I could do without. We were not sure where they came from but just showed up. Thankfully we were leaving soon. Happy to leave those behind. Next we are off to Indiana....
